Auto 713 - Automotive Electricity and Electronics
This course involves the study of electrical fundamentals, electrical test equipment, automotive batteries, starting and charging systems, wiring diagrams, lighting circuits, various advanced body electrical circuits and controls. Primary emphasis on diagnosis, testing, and repair. Lecture/Laboratory total of 360 hours, 15 Units. Prerequisite: Admission to the Automotive Technology program.

 

Course Objectives

Students will learn concepts and develop basic skills necessary to diagnose automotive electrical problems, to include electrical principles, use of basic electrical test equipment, and how to interpret wiring diagrams, and to gather and analyze information. In addition, students will diagnose and repair automotive batteries, starting, and charging, lighting systems, advanced automotive electrical systems, to include body electrical accessories, and basic computer control. Major emphasis will be in diagnostic procedures.

Students will receive instruction necessary to take the State of California Lamp Adjusters examination and the Automotive Service Excellence examination.

Class hours: 8:00 a.m. to 1:15 p.m.
Class Break: 9:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.

 

Prerequisites

Admission to the Automotive Technology program or demonstration of equivalent skills.

Grading Policy

PARTICIPATION (ATTENDANCE): (15% of your grade)

A) Based on number of hours attended - point system.
B) Points subtracted for being absent, late, or leaving early.

HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENTS: (20% of your grade)

A) Based on number of correct - point system.
B) Missing assignments - Automatic 1 grade lower for the course.
C) Late assignments - 50% lower grade on the assignment for each day late.

WRITTEN TESTS: (20% of your grade)

A) Based on number of correct - point system.
B) Missing Tests - Automatic 1 grade lower for the entire course.

SUBJECTIVE LAB PERFORMANCE: (10% of your grade)

A) Having the required TOOLS and TOOL CHITS will affect this grade!!
B) Lab sheets and participation may be used to evaluate students performance.
C) Based on the number of lab, demo, lecture days attended.

WRITTEN MIDTERM: (10% of your grade)

A) Based on number of correct - point system.

WRITTEN FINAL: (15% of your grade)

A) Based on number of correct - point system.

PRACTICAL FINAL: (10% of your grade)

A) Based on number of correct - point system.
B) Performance based task and, or problem solving.

LETTER GRADES*

A = 100% to 90%

C = 70% to 79%

F = 59% to 0%

B = 89% to 80%

D = 60% to 69%
